Blacking Out The Friction's favourite EPs of 2006. Some might say that I'm posting this a bit late, but really, the year just ended less than a week ago. Ps. Top albums of 2006 to come by the end of the weekend.
05. Patrick Wolf - Accident and Emergency EP - Accident and Emergency is the first single from the forthcoming album The Magic Position. His music seems to get more complicated with every release, yet still manages to hold onto the pop sensibilities that makes his music so appealing. Patrick has to be one of the most underrated artists around today.
04. Voxtrot - Mothers, Sisters, Daugthers, Wives EP - Another great EP by Voxtrot. This band can't do wrong in my books. Can't wait for the full-length and can't wait for them to play Toronto again. Features one of my favourite b-sides of the year Rise Up In The Dirt.
03. Land Of Talk - Cheer Boo Hiss EP - Everyone's new favourite female-fronted band from Montreal (what happened to Pony Up!???). Cheer Boo Hiss sounds like Chan Marshall if she hadn't sobered up and decided to start an indie band. Great vocals, great melodies, great guitars.
02. Dangerous Muse - Give Me Danger EP - Dangerous Muse follow in the footsteps of all the early 00's electroclash bands that have seemed to disappear (Fischerspooner, Soviet, Adult. etc.). They mix cheesy electro beats with sappy synth-pop lyrics and still manage to produce modern sounding tunes. This EP is a great introduction to the duo.
01. Tokyo Police Club - A Lesson In Crime - This EP encompasses everything a new, young band should be. Tons of energy, lots of fun, and straight to the point, seven songs in less than 20 minutes. Their currently working on their debut, and if this is any indication, it should be great.
