LIMIT TO YOUR LOVE

Feist
Music Gallery
Friday March 9, 2007

JohnO scored an invite to Feist's secret Arts&Crafts CMW showcase at the Music Gallery and let me be his plus one. I was super excited, last time I saw her was in a festival enviroment (BSS, Bloc Party on Toronto Island) and was really disappointed with her set (her sound doesn't translate live in such a large expanse). I was super happy to be able to attend such a small showcase to celebrate the soon to be released album The Reminder. Arts&Crafts went all out with the showcase, first off, they couldn't have picked a better venue: super tiny, intimate and good acoustics. Secondly, during a pre-show reception, they pulled out all the stops and had really wicked catering, and free drinks. Also, for the "fans" that won guest list spots, A&C roped off the first four rows of the venue. JohnO and I scored seats right in the front row, dead centre. Can't beat that.

Feist hit the stage at 7:30pm to a warm welcome, it seems that even industry folk love her. She played an hour long set consisting of all new tracks from the upcoming release. I've only listened to the album a few times and can honestly say that the new material works very well in a live setting, especially the up-beat tunes like My Moon, My Man. There was a photo-ban at the show, I managed to sneak one photo while she was performing (my flash went off even though I had set it not too, and I drew too much attention to myself, hence not trying to take more). A great introduction to the upcoming album.

PATRICK WOLF THE MAGIC POSITION

This has to be my favourite single of 2007 thus far. Fun, bouncy and fantastic. Patrick is heading out on tour in the UK in a few weeks with Arcade Fire. Let's hope the North American release of The Magic Position brings him back to Toronto.
